Singapore KL High Speed Rail is confirmed to be located at Jurong East. Announced on Tuesday, 5 May 2015 by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong after the Leaders’ Retreat with his Malaysian counterpart Malaysian Prime Minister Najib . The Republic’s terminus for the Singapore-Kuala Lumpur High Speed Rail is completion date will be re-assessed due to the complexity of this huge project. The inital target of completion is 2020.
The reason why Jurong East was selected is due to Singapore government plans to transform the area into a second Central Business District (CBD), according to a statement. Malaysia have identifies 5 terminus stations as Kuala Lumpur (at Bandar Malaysia), Seremban, Melaka, Muar, Batu Pahat, Nusajaya and the final stop in Singapore (Jurong East).
The aims is to cut down on travel time between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore to just 90 minutes. Both countries leaders said they hope to come to an agreement on the new date by the end of the 2015, and will give an updated timeline on when the trains will start running then. PM Najib pointed out that construction will take five years, on top of one year for designing the project, and one year for the tender process.
Both Malaysia and Singapore have been in active discussion on the technical, operational, security and other aspects of the High Speed Rail. Both sides have also come to in-principle agreements on a few areas, and both leaders reaffirmed that both countries are fully committed to the success of the project.
